Not only was it a good day from a training perspective but the weather was beautiful too!

There was some spectacular flying with pilots as young as 14 taking part.

Kevin Targett (left) and Nigel Fraser Ker (right) picked up some useful pointers
on judging from 3D Masters judge Jeremy Morcom

Chef for the day was Angela Privett - always on handy to feed and water a hungry pilot or judge!

Jeremy also gave a great display of flying once the formal proceedings were over

This was the event notice published beforehand...

Thinking of having a go at a 3D competition? Want a chance to practise? Want some help and advice about 3D flying?
Want to come and meet other people who want to compete? Want to try a new field? Fed up with practising on your own?
If the answer to most of the above is 'yes' then why not come along to the Boxhill 3D Try-out Day.  The idea of this day is to give pilots who are thinking of competing in or who have entered a 3D Competition a chance to fly  in private with other similar pilots without the pressure of being judged or having lots of people watching.  There will also be a number of experienced pilots on hand to offer advice including at least one 3D Masters judge!
  • Who is organising it?
The members of Boxhill Helicopter Flying Club
  • Who is it open to?

Anyone who is thinking of taking part in a 3D helicopter competition, their callers or anyone considering being a judge at a future 3D competition..
  • Who is it not open to?

Members of the public, friends, family, hangers-on, trade, photographers, TV crews, Top Gear presenters, etc. etc.
  • Requirements

BMFA 'B' Certificate for radio controlled helicopters.
  • When is it?

Sunday 15th April, beginning at midday.
  • How do you apply?

Please contact Jamie Privett (Events Secretary) on 0208 393 3284 or abpj.p@btinternet.com
  • How much does it cost?

    Nothing!

Points and Prizes
There won't be any points or prizes - this is just a chance for you to gain some experience.  If you want help, just ask and someone will be on hand to offer advice.

3DX Judge Training
In association with 3DX, the event will also be offering anyone who is interested in becoming a 3DX judge the chance to try their hand at scoring flights.  Prospective judges will be trained and assessed by experienced 3DX judges, using pilots' flights as examples.  Although their 'training scores' will not be made public, pilots will be given feedback on request.

Food
The Privett family have kindly said that they will be providing tea, coffee, cold drinks, sausage or bacon rolls.  There is also a petrol station at the roundabout (which is only a few hundred yards away) where you can get most things you are likely to need.

Tx Control
A normal transmitter control system will be in operation. 2.4 GHz 'spread spectrum' systems are allowed.

Flying Schedule
Pilots will fly one at a time. Pilots may fly any schedule they want, e.g. Freestyle, Set Manoeuvres, Flight to Music, etc. using a flight format from any competition they wish, e.g. 3D Masters, Clubman 3DX, 3D Championship, etc.  However, their intended routine must be stated beforehand and will be announced to the other pilots.

Rain Plan
Fortunately there is an excellent pub just up the road called 'The Running Horses' where we will all go if the weather gets too bad to fly!

Site Facilities
There are no toilets at the field but there are some very large bushes!

Accommodation
If anyone needs accommodation, please contact Nigel Fraser Ker at Heli-Lessons (or of course you could try 'Googling').

A Final Note
This is a UNIQUE opportunity and if you've been wavering,
not sure whether to have a go at a competition, or wishing you could get
some 'real' practice for an event, get to the Boxhill 3D Try-out!
