Front Page BALDWIN 2-4-2T
-the Model
We considered a number of candidate locomotives before choosing ‘LYN’ as our next model engineering kit project. Previously we had concentrated our efforts on developing a very fine range of British prototype locomotives for 5” gauge ρ the single most popular model engineering gauge in the UK. Looking to expand our horizons we sought a modelling subject that had international appeal so that hundreds of new customers could be introduced to the unique Winson kit modelling experience.
We found in ‘LYN’ the ideal solution - not only is she a beautiful and powerful locomotive but her history lies on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Her Baldwin parentage is all American, her life in steam quintessentially British. Add to this the flexibility provided by the outside bar frame construction and here was a locomotive perfect for running on all the most popular gauges across the world from 41/4” all the way through to 71/2”.
This fabulous locomotive is certain to provide you with great pleasure to build and run. You may choose to present her in the traditional Lynton & Barnstaple livery or perhaps that of the post 1923 Southern Railway or even as a typical American 2-4-2T of the period. Represented either way, she is an engine to be much admired and esteemed by all.
The model is comprised of 18 individual kits, delivered at a rate of one a month - commencing with the frames in February 2000 for Batch 1 and completing all deliveries at the end of July/August 2001. The kit is complete with every component you need to build a working live steam locomotive, complete with fully certificated steel boiler.
All kits include detailed assembly drawings, which clearly identify components by their unique part number. The packaging of each individual part carries this number.
You can be confident of successfully completing your model whether you are an experienced model engineer or a someone new to this stimulating and rewarding hobby. Our Customer Service team can offer advice on construction, running or maintenance should this be required at any stage. During the manufacture of the batch of locomotives we complete a control model from production components to prove each kit prior to despatch. This quality process, supported by our telephone helpline, will provide support throughout the build.

We aim to ensure your satisfaction and enjoyment in building one - or more - of our models. Your kit will also contain instructions on driving and maintaining your steam locomotive.
To build a model of this size and quality from scratch could take even an experienced model engineer thousands of hours and substantial investment in expensive machine tools. A one-off commission from a reputable builder may be subject to extended delivery and could cost considerably in excess of the price at which we offer this model.
CNC batch production delivers excellent quality at a very competitive price. It offers you the opportunity of taking pride and a sense of achievement in building this powerful model yourself, and provides confidence in the future value of your locomotive.
The following pages contain illustrations of each kit and a full parts listing. In addition we are able to provide photographs of the staged build from start to finish to demonstrate the fast and sure progress you can make as you build as you buy.

NOTE: Parts listing is for 71/4" gauge version. Other gauges have minor variation in kit composition.
