The narrow gauge locomotives of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway are amongst Britain’s best loved. The railway was the product of a long campaign, which eventually saw the first train running on Monday 7th March, 1898. The fourth locomotive acquired to run on the railway was supplied in kit form by the Baldwin Company of the USA at a cost of £1,375. The locomotive was named LYN and she was assembled at Pilton yard. LYN was the 15,965th locomotive produced by this prolific manufacturer and featured outside bar frames and the sand domes so typical of American 2-4-2’s of the period. She was a beautiful locomotive and we are delighted to present this model which is based on LYN at a scale of one-quarter full size. The model is approximately 6ft in length and because it has outside frames it can be supplied in any gauge between 43/4” and 71/2”. With a tractive effort of 220lbs this is a very powerful engine and she is sure to grace any miniature railway. |
